I grew up with the belief that a career in the arts was not something to strive for, or be reflected as a "successful" form of occupation. For nearly 15 years, I pushed myself into places I hoped would help me achieve what I believed to be a fulfilling and gratifying life. I worked hard in my 8-4, 40hr a week office job, ticked all the "boxes", did all the things... and yet was never truly happy.

The constant turmoil of my inner needs clashing with my outer needs slowly ate away at my soul. After a 13-year career & an unexpected health crisis, I hit a wall. I was no longer able to return to my job. This forced me to take a hard look at who I was, who I wanted to be, and what kind of future I truly wanted for myself and my family.

At the age of 34, I went back to school and completed the Digital Arts & New Media Program at Selkirk College here in Nelson. It was not easy. Later in life than most of my class, and soaked in insecurity, I seemed the washed-up ghost version of myself. Depleted. Unsure. Faded. I did not feel like I fit. Riddled with anxiety & self-doubt, I hid in stairways and bathroom stalls and cried. I walked out of class regularly. I wanted to quit a thousand times. And yet somehow, I didn't.  

 

When you are in the right place, doing what you are meant to be doing, things have a way of coming together and keeping you safe. The instructors were exceptional, the 20-something year olds became fast friends, and through all of it I came out feeling like I was going to be okay. I finally remembered who I truly was: the person I had been fighting against my entire life, an artist.

Through school I uncovered a fast-growing adoration of Typography and Graphic Design. Pulling those skills together with my photography, and learning web development along the way, it seemed only natural to bring them all together into my business.

My optimal focus in my business is to continually nourish the artist in myself, as well as the artist in everyone around me. We all have a glimmer of artistic magic in us. I will work with you to discover what that looks like for you, how to implement it into your business, and how to help you flourish with your company. I will help your inner self match your outer self, and show it to the world proudly.
